Pay with a contactless Visa card on public transport

Visa supports urban mobility with simple, convenient and safe payment solutions, based on experience gained around the world and can be useful in public transport.

Visa's contactless payment solutions have simplified the use of public transport, as you can pay for your journey directly in the bus, at the validator with your card, be it debit, credit or prepaid, physical or virtual. This solution allows you to easily travel around cities without the need to have cash at hand, to buy a designated transit card or top it up.

You can now use your Visa contactless card in Ljubljana, Koper, Piran, Kranj and Maribor.

With a payment card or smart device equipped with contactless payment technology, passengers can pay the fare for just the journey on the vehicle they boarded. Payment by card does not allow for changing buses without an additional fare payment.

• To travel within one zone, the passenger must tap the payment card against a validator. To travel between a group of stops in two or more zones, the passenger must select the appropriate zone before using the payment card on the validator. In case a passenger taps several physical cards at the same time, the validator will charge the payment card that it detects first.
• In case the passenger wants to pay the fare for multiple passengers, they must first indicate to the driver their intention and the number of people they are paying for.

In case of a check of a payment made by payment card, the controller will do this by reading your payment card at the controller's terminal.

The passenger shall, at the request of the controller, allow the payment card to be read by the controller at the controller’s terminal.

The back-office system will validate whether a transaction for the fare payment has been made on the validator.
